Slip on the Hippogryph Stag (Rainbow) Necklace and celebrate the rare gem that you are. A symbol of the impossible, the Hippogryph, aka Hippogriff, is a legendary creature primarily depicted as the offspring of a griffin and a mare — an unlikely pairing, given that griffins were believed to prey upon horses.

At Eupterra, we believe in the harmonious blend of consumerism and environmentalism.  Thus, the hippogryph perfectly represents all things Eupterra — with the unique twist of pairing a regal stag with a wise raven — as well as the unique community that makes the impossible possible. Together, we can all make a difference for our planet, starting from the local level. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind pendant for yourself, or share it with your family and friends!

  • Superior-quality 1-inch essential oil locket features Eupterra’s stylized hippogryph brand logo in tempered stainless steel with a 24-inch stainless steel chain.
  • No two pieces are alike! Our heat tempering of the stainless steel metal results in one-of-a-kind color variations, ranging from blues and greens to yellows, magentas, and purples.
  • Rainbow necklace design also features rainbow tempering for unique color tones.
  • Unique essential oil locket provides portable aromatherapy. Opens easily to insert your favorite essential oils atop the included white cotton pads; comes with three cotton pads so you can easily swap fragrances in and out as desired.
  • Comes gift-boxed in eco-friendly packaging made from 100% natural plant fiber harvested from invasive plant species and printed with sustainably sourced ink.
  • 30-day warranty guarantees your purchase, providing peace of mind as you enjoy your necklace.

More About Hippogryphs

Referenced in medieval works like Ludovico Ariosto’s poem “Orlando Furioso” (1516), as well as later works like Arnold Sundgaard's poem “The Hippogriff,” the hippogryph was indeed considered a rarity. In fact, "to mate griffins with mares" was a medieval metaphor equivalent to current-day idioms "when pigs fly" or "when hell freezes over," since griffins were believed to prey upon horses.

According to lore, the hippogryph was easier to tame than a griffin. In the few medieval legends when this extraordinary creature makes an appearance, it is usually the pet of either a knight or a sorcerer. It makes an excellent steed, being able to fly as fast as lightning. The hippogryph is said to be an omnivore, eating both plants and meat.

Our founder, Charlene, has her own inspirational take on the creature, however — one that served as the inspiration behind our logo:

"My personal rendition of this legendary animal was to have it with the characteristics of a regal stag and wise raven. A bit different than the traditional, but I thought it would add a fun twist! Nature is all about adaptation after all. ;)"  ~Charlene A. Rountree
